"Waking Sleeping Beauty," made by the studio after all but Roy Disney had left (he died in 2009), is an extraordinary inside look at those 10 years. When Katzenberg was in charge of all animation, Eisner announced at a studio meeting that a major new animation building would be constructed. The most fascinating scenes in "Waking Sleeping Beauty" involve the infamous Disney work ethic. It uses footage and taps into insights, memories and home movies that only insiders would have access to. Friends of mine at the studio said the unofficial motto was, "If you didn't come in on Saturday, don't even bother to come in on Sunday." Animators worked so hard, they developed anxiety, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome. This saddened them very much, as they dearly wanted a child.

Long ago, a king and a queen had a beautiful baby girl after many years of their marriage.

So she roved about by herself, and looked at all the rooms and chambers, until at last she came to an old tower, to which there was a narrow staircase ending with a little door.

In the door there was a golden key, and when she turned it the door sprang open, and there sat an old lady spinning away very busily.“Why how now, good mother,” said the princess, “what are you doing there?

Then the kiss of a prince will break her long sleep." The king ordered his soldiers to burn all the spinning wheels in the country. At once, the princess opened her eyes and was delighted to see the prince.

On her sixteenth birthday, the princess happily moved around the palace.

So twelve fairies came, each with a high red cap on her head, red shoes with high heels on her feet and a long white wand in her hand.

After the feast was over they gathered round in a ring and gave all their best gifts to the little princess.

Now this king and queen had plenty of money, plenty of fine clothes to wear, plenty of good things to eat and drink and a coach to ride out in every day.

However, although they had been married many years, they had no children.
